Fitted bedrooms and wardrobes in Appleby

The houses here
Why a standard one will not fit.
Appleby-in-Westmorland sits in the upper Eden Valley, sandstone again, with Boroughgate running down from the castle to the river. Around it are farms and estate cottages, and a steady amount of restoration work on older properties. It is the furthest regular corner of our area and the houses there are almost uniformly old.
Work this far out is planned rather than casual, so we do more of it in one visit: kitchen, utility and boot room drawn together, fitted in one programme, by the same men. It is a better way to do it in any case, because the three rooms share a wall more often than not.
We make the carcasses, so the wardrobes finish at the ceiling instead of stopping short of it, the run finishes at the wall instead of stopping short of that, and the sloping ceiling in the back bedroom stops being a reason you cannot have storage there.

Appleby: the questions we get
Do you travel as far as Appleby?
Yes. It is the far end of our regular area rather than outside it, and work that far out is usually planned as one programme rather than a series of visits.
Can you do the kitchen and the utility room at the same time?
It is usually the sensible way. They are often back to back, they share services, and drawing them together means the storage ends up where it should be instead of being split between two jobs done a year apart.
Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?
Yes, and it is one of the better arguments for having them made. A slope defeats standard units completely, but it is only an angle on a drawing, and the space under it is usually the only spare storage in the room.
Do the wardrobes go right to the ceiling?
If you want them to. Because we cut the carcasses, the height is set by your ceiling rather than by what a supplier stocks, which usually gains a full shelf across the whole wall.
