Media walls and TV units

The television, the boxes and the cables, put away inside the joinery. A television on a bracket with a box underneath it and cables down the wall is the single easiest thing to improve in most sitting rooms, and it is furniture, not electronics.

Fitted media wall beside a stone fireplace, with a television, a wine store and cabinets to the ceiling
Library and media wall, Threlkeld. Fitted July 2022.

The argument

Hide the boxes, keep the room

The practical work is ventilation and access: the equipment has to breathe and somebody has to be able to reach it in two years when it is replaced. Both are solved at the drawing stage and neither is solved by a bought unit.

The other half is proportion. A media wall that works is built to the room's own lines, so the cabinets line up with the chimney breast, the window reveal or the beam, instead of sitting in front of them.

From our own jobs

Rooms we have already made.

Fitted media wall beside a stone fireplace, with a television, a wine store and cabinets to the ceiling
Fitted library and media wall at Threlkeld in deep green, glazed cabinets either side of the television, facing a window onto the fells

We build the television, the boxes, the speakers and the cables into the joinery, so what you see is a wall of cabinets with a screen in it.

Named and dated

Real houses, with the month on them.

Where we work

Cumbria, and over the border.

We fit our own furniture across north Cumbria and into Dumfriesshire. Two of the jobs on this site are in Scotland, in the same house, two years apart.

Media walls and TV units: what people ask

Will the equipment overheat inside a cupboard?

Not if it is drawn properly. Ventilation and access are decided before anything is made, which is the advantage of building the wall rather than buying a unit and hoping.

Can it be built around a stove or a fireplace?

Yes, and it usually looks best when it is, because the fireplace already sets the centre line of the room. We build to the clearances the appliance requires.

The rest of the house

We make all of it.
