Gretna, Dumfriesshire

Kitchens and fitted furniture in Gretna.

Made at our workshop in Dalston and fitted by our own men. We have worked across Dumfriesshire from Lingey Close for 54 years.

The houses here

What Gretna is actually built of.

Gretna is the first town over the border and a short run up the road from us. The housing is a mixture: the planned township built for the munitions works in 1915, post-war housing around it, newer estates, and farms out towards the Solway and the Esk. The 1915 township houses in particular were built to a plan and to a budget, and the kitchens in them are small rooms that reward being thought about properly.

A small kitchen is the hardest kind to buy off the shelf and the easiest kind to improve by making it to measure. When the room is nine feet by eight, fifty millimetres of filler panel in the wrong place is the difference between a usable worktop and a useless one.

What we make

Any room in the house.

Questions from Gretna

Do you cross the border to Gretna?

Yes. Southwest Scotland is part of the area we have always covered, and Gretna is one of the closer towns we work in, border or no border.

Is a made-to-measure kitchen worth it in a small room?

Arguably it is worth more in a small room than a large one. In a big kitchen a wasted fifty millimetres disappears. In a small one it is the difference between somewhere to put the kettle down and nowhere to put the kettle down.
