Longtown, Cumbria

Kitchens and fitted furniture in Longtown.

Made at our workshop in Dalston and fitted by our own men. We have worked across Cumbria from Lingey Close for 54 years.

The houses here

What Longtown is actually built of.

Longtown sits on the Esk with the Scottish border a couple of miles further on, and it is a farming town more than anything else. The housing is a mix of older cottages on the main street, post-war housing behind it, and farms out towards the Solway and the Kershope forests. It is the sort of place where a kitchen is expected to last twenty years and take a hammering in the meantime.

We cross the border constantly, so a Longtown job and a job the other side of the line are the same job to us. Utility rooms and boot rooms come up as often as kitchens, because the houses out here take weather and livestock in through the back door all year.

What we make

Any room in the house.

Questions from Longtown

Do you come out as far as Longtown?

Yes, and past it. We work across north Cumbria and into Dumfriesshire, so Longtown is comfortably inside the area we cover and on the way to a good deal of the rest of it.

What do you make for a working farmhouse?

Kitchens, but also the rooms around them: utility rooms with a deep sink and space for the machines, and boot rooms built to take wet coats and dirty boots without falling apart. Those rooms take more punishment than the kitchen does.
